As you drive around you may be noticing that some license plate numbers are peeling.
While we may hear more of those stories from others, according to Diego Sandino of PennDOT, nothing has changed in the manufacturing process.
“From our data, we don’t really have that says that license plates are wearing out any sooner or faster than they have in the past,” Sandino said. “This is just typical wear and tear we’ve been seeing.”
Either way, Sandino says if your license plate is peeling you have a couple of options to get it replaced.
“They should visit an inspection station and receive a form called the MV-46 which is the application to replace the registration plate. Or have a law enforcement official verify the need for a replacement. Again, they would need a form for that too which is the MV-44
Those forms then need to be mailed to PennDOT, which will then send you a replacement plate free of charge.
