Many people who voted by mail in Butler County are checking their ballot’s status on the state’s website and see that it’s listed as “pending.”
County Commissioner Leslie Osche told our newsroom voters shouldn’t be overly concerned, as the issue should be resolved over the next couple of days.
“Before Election Day, and I would say by the end of this week, (the election office) will continue to scan ballots, and they will all be scanned before Election Day,” Osche said.
Director of Elections Aaron Sheasley said his office’s primary focus was getting ballots out to voters who did not receive them yet. Now that the mail-in ballot application deadline has passed, his office will shift their attention to scanning-in received ballots to the state system.
“Because of the situation with getting the ballots out, we elected to focus more on the ballot side of it first, and then catch up on the backside,” Sheasley said. “That will be happening over the next several of days at a much faster rate.”
Osche said if you’re concerned about your status, you can still go to your polling location on Election Day.
“If for some reason, you go and check your status, and if you don’t think it arrived for whatever reason if you mailed it,” Osche said. “You still have the opportunity to go to the poll and vote. You will vote by provisional ballot, but your vote still will get there and is still going to count.”
Election officials hope the scanning of mail-in ballots will happen over the next 72 hours.
