Prospect Teddy Blueger’s was sent back to the AHL yesterday.
Blueger, 23, was called up Feb. 9 when fourth-line center Carter Rowney suffered a lower-body injury in a game against Vegas three days earlier.
Rowney didn’t miss a game, however, so Blueger never got into the lineup.
The demotion leaves the Penguins with 12 healthy forwards.
Because they don’t play again until Friday at Carolina, the Penguins can save a few dollars under the salary cap by sending down any extraneous players.
Patric Hornqvist has also resumed skating after suffering a lower-body injury Feb. 2 and shouldn’t be out of the lineup much longer.
