The Penguins announced Monday that they have made nine additions to their hockey operations staff. One new hire is Jonathan Erlichman, a former Tampa Bay Rays employee who in 2019 became the first data analyst in Major League Baseball history to transition into the dugout as an analytics coach. Erlichman, who spent 12 years with the Rays, was named the Penguins’ vice president of hockey research, development and strategy.
The Penguins also promoted four individuals, including Jason Spezza and Amanda Kessel. Spezza, an assistant General Manager, has received the additional title of general manager for Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton. Kessel, now manager of minor league operations, will assist Spezza with their American Hockey League club and also oversee the ECHL club in Wheeling.
