Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences is helping to prevent the transmission of bird flu with a statewide giveaway to educational youth organizations.
In an effort to promote healthy animals, the Department of Animal Science is sponsoring a biosecurity kit for all county 4-H programs.
Each kit will include a portable tote containing a biosecurity mat, disinfectant, and disposable shoe covers for use at public 4-H animal events as well as instructions for use and maintenance.
Birds raised by 4-H members are susceptible to infection and disease transmission so using the mat at farms or exhibitions will act as a barrier that individuals step on to reduce potential spread.
