With the winter weather here, PennDOT is reminding about safe driving habits.
They are encouraging drivers to use extra caution and say salt is not a “silver bullet” to create safe roadways.
If you encounter snow on the road, PennDOT urges drivers to reduce speed by half. If it is icy, they say to bring your speed to a crawl. If you see a salt truck, you are reminded to stay at least 500 feet behind the vehicle.
They also add to apply brakes gently, and if you start to skid, ease off the brakes and reapply whenever you regain control.
