PennDOT is reminding homeowners who live on a state highway about some rules regarding construction projects.
They say those who are planning constructing a new driveway or altering an existing one need to have the proper permit.
It’s called an HOP permit—or a Highway Occupancy Permit. The permit application needs to be submitted at least 30 days prior to the work starting. Once the project is completed, the property owner must notify PennDOT again so that a final inspection can be conducted.
The fee for a residential permit is $25 and applications can be accessed by visiting PennDOT’s website or by calling the local PennDOT district office. Those who do not comply could be subject to a minimum fine of $100 plus court costs.
