The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has reopened some rest areas to allow for truck parking.
The decision to reopen 13 of 30 rest areas in critical locations was made to address safety concerns and after they were all closed Tuesday in response to guidance from Governor Wolf’s office.
Interstate 79 northbound in Allegheny County is one of the rest areas that will be opened along with Interstate 80 east and westbound in Venango County. Each location will have five portable toilets that will be cleaned once a day.
Local state Representative Daryl Metcalfe issued a statement earlier on Wednesday demanding that the Wolf administration restore full truck driver access to all state rest areas.
