With the threat that our first real snowfall of the season could happen this week, PennDOT is encouraging drivers to get prepared if you haven’t already.
PennDOT’s Deborah Casadei says it’s the simple things that you can do today that could help prevent a catastrophe in the future.
“We, at PennDOT, have been preparing for winter for some time now,” Casadei said in an interview. “There are things that motorists can, and should, do.”
Tips include:
-Making sure your cell phone is charged and keep a charger in your vehicle
-Packing an emergency kit to keep in your vehicle, with water, a blanket, flashlight, snow shovel and non-perishable food
“Make sure you find your ice scraper,” Casadei said with a laugh.
Other things to consider putting on your vehicle this time of year are winter tires and new wiper blades. You should also make sure all your fluid levels are full and that your tires are properly inflated.
PennDOT also advises drivers to stay back from snow plows and give them room to do their jobs.
