Pennsylvania’s attorney general has announced a settlement with Intuit—an organization that oversees Turbo Tax.
Michelle Henry says in a statement that Turbo Tax deceived some residents into paying fees to use their service, despite claiming it was for free.
The settlement was for $141 million; Henry estimates that nearly 159,000 state residents are eligible to receive compensation.
Consumers who used Turbo Tax to file federal tax returns in 2016, 2017, and 2018 are expected to receive a direct payment of around $30 for each year they were misled into paying for filing services.
