Butler County deer hunters traveling to other parts of the state have a new tool available to answer questions about Chronic Wasting Disease.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission is offering a CWD Hotline hunters can call to get answers to questions such as where the disease has been found, what special rules apply, and how to handle deer harvested in those areas. That hotline number is 1-833-INFOCWD (463-6293).
Hunters who harvest a deer within a Disease Management Area can drop its head in one of the Game Commission’s collection bins. The Game Commission will have it tested free of charge and provide results to hunters.
Even hunters who harvest a deer outside of a Disease Management Area can have it tested for free by the Game Commission as long as they deposit the head in one of the bins located inside a DMA. Visit the Game Commission’s website for more information.
