The Pennsylvania Lottery is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month.
The first ticket ever purchased for the lottery happened on March 7, 1972.
According to Executive Director Drew Svitko, the lottery has changed quite a bit since that time.
“We sell products online now. Our online platform is really popular with players and it allows us to diversify our product mix and reach a whole new audience of players,” Svitko said. “That is critical for not only the funding we generate today, but for years and generations to come.”
Since its inception, the Lottery has generated more than $32.6 billion, with the funds going to programs for older Pennsylvanians.
