The Pennsylvania Senate has passed a bill that would ban safe injection sites across the Commonwealth.
The bill prohibits the operation of clinics or establishments for people to induce any controlled substance to their body. Republican State Senator Dan McLaughlin voted in favor of banning the sites.
“Safe injection sites are a misnomer,” McLaughlin said. “They’re not safe for the addict or the community. They’re not safe for anybody. We need to stand up and do what’s right.”
The bill passed the state senate on a 41 to 9 vote. Advocates of the bill say it offers a safe space for those who do suffer from a drug problem.
