Childhood poverty is on the decline across Pennsylvania according to a new report.
The U.S. Census Bureau’s five year estimates show that the child poverty rate fell in Pennsylvania from 21 percent to 17 percent from 2017 to 2021.
The biggest improvements were seen in southern and western counties in the state.
However, during that time there was an increase in poverty for the elderly population. That number currently sits at 9.5 percent, which is still below the national average.
