The Pittsburgh Penguins have received their schedule for the 2018-19 season from the NHL. After playing a league-high 19 back-to-back games last season, the Pens play 11 such games in the coming year. They open at home against Washington October 4th. They will also play an outdoor game with Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field February 23rd. The Pens will also have a Thanksgiving Eve game at home against Dallas.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced Thursday that the salary cap for next season will rise to nearly $80 million, a small increase over last season.
The NHL Draft will take place over the next two days. The Penguins will not have a selection until the second round tomorrow. The first round will be televised on NBCSN tonight at 7:30pm.
It didn’t take Barry Trotz long to find new work. Trotz resigned as the Washington head coach earlier this week, and yesterday signed a five-year contract three days later with the New York Islanders.
