The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Montreal Canadiens 9-2 last night. The Pens scored six goals alone in the third period. They were led by Bryan Rust, who had a hat trick. Rickard Rakell had two goals and four points. Tristan Jarry stopped 21 of 23 shots.
The Pens entered the third period leading 3-2 before the offensive explosion. They went two of three on power plays.
Sidney Crosby had three assists in the game, and now has 1,026 in his career, fifth-most in NHL history by a player with one team. He trails Mario Lemieux by seven assists for the Penguins franchise record and fourth place all-time in NHL history.
The Pens visit the Ottawa Senators Saturday night. Face-off is 7pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:30pm.
