Boys Basketball:
–Robby Carmody led Mars with 25 points in the Planets 68-47 victory over Hampton Friday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Carmody now has 2,286 career points, good for 10th all-time in the WPIAL. Mars (22-4) will meet Trinity (21-5) in the Western Region second round Tuesday at Moon high school. Tip-off will be 7pm.
–Mercyhurst Prep eliminated Karns City 78-47.
–Pine-Richland eliminated Central Catholic 75-64 Saturday in the 6A first round. The Rams (21-6) will face State College (23-1) Wednesday in Johnstown at 7:30pm.
–Greenville eliminated Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 63-51 Saturday.
Girls Basketball:
–Mars eliminated Obama Academy in the 5A first round 60-33. The Planets (20-6) will meet Thomas Jefferson (21-4) in the Western Region second round Wednesday at Plum high school at 7:30pm. Thomas Jefferson had to go to overtime to defeat Slippery Rock 66-57.
–Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic defeated Keystone Oaks 74-41 in the 4A first round. The Lady Trojans (23-3) will meet Ambridge (14-11) Wednesday in a second round game at Baldwin high school. Tipoff will be 6pm.
–AC Valley defeated Sewickley Academy 54-48 in overtime in the 1A first round. The Falcons (21-5) will next meet Kennedy Catholic (19-5) at Slippery Rock University Wednesday at 7:30pm in the Western Region second round.
–Congratulations to Butler wrestler Christian Sequete who finished fourth overall at 182 pounds at the Pennsylvania State championships.
