PIAA High School Playoffs – First Round:
Boys Soccer:
–Seneca Valley began the defense of their 4A state title with a 3-0 victory over Landisville Hempfield last night. Joey Coon scored all three goals for in the match. The undefeated Raiders get Lower Merion Saturday in the Quarterfinals.
–North Catholic defeated Richland 2-1 in the 2A First Round. Dylan Greggs scored both goals for the Trojans, who will meet Ambridge Saturday in the Quarterfinals.
–Somerset defeated the Karns City Gremlins 1-0 in the 2A First Round.
–Grove City fell 8-0 to Quaker Valley.
Girls Soccer:
–The Seneca Valley Girls fell 2-1 in overtime to McDowell ending their season.
–Mars defeated Red Land 2-0 in the 3A First Round and will meet Montour Saturday in the Quarterfinals. Piper Coffield and Addi Girdwood scored the Mars goals.
It was the Planets eighth consecutive victory in the state tournament. They have not allowed a playoff goal since the 2019 semifinals and are seeking a third straight state title.
–North Catholic defeated Karns City 2-1 in the 2A First Round. The Trojanettes will face Erie’s Villa Maria Saturday in the Quarterfinals.
Girls Volleyball:
–Freeport defeated Plum 3-0 in the 3A First Round. The Yellow Jackets will face Twin Valley in the state Quarterfinals Saturday.
–North Catholic shutout Corry 3-0 in the 2A First Round. The Trojanettes advance to take on Bedford Saturday in the Quarterfinals.
–North Allegheny defeated State College 3-0 in the 4A First Round. The Tigers meet Elizabethtown Saturday in the state Quarterfinals.
