The state playoffs began Tuesday in two high school sports.
PIAA Soccer:
–The Seneca Valley girls defeated Altoona 6-1 last night in their Class 4A First Round state match-up. The Raiders will meet Conestoga Saturday in the quarterfinal round.
–The Mars girls shutout Harbor Creek in their Class 3A First round game 5-0. Five different players scored for the Planets, who will meet South Fayette in the quarterfinals.
–The North Catholic girls went to overtime to defeat Bedford 2-1 in the Class 2A First Round. They move into the quarterfinals against Erie Cathedral Prep Saturday.
–The Karns City girls also went to overtime, but defeated Winchester Thurston 2-1. They will meet Seton LaSalle Saturday in the quarterfinal round.
–The Mars boys were knocked out in the opening round following a 4-0 loss to Conrad Weiser.
PIAA Girls Volleyball First Round:
–North Catholic lost to State College 3-2.
–Mars shutout Central Mountain 3-0. They will meet Hampton Saturday in the quarterfinals.
