The governing body of high schools sports in Pennsylvania is one step closer to allowing student-athletes to make money off their name, image, and likeness.
The PIAA voted on the second reading of an NIL policy which would allow high school athletes to receive compensation for commercial endorsements, promotional activities and social media presence.
This would be similar to the policy now allowed for collegiate athletes.
PIAA leaders say they expect only a minimal number of athletes to take advantage of the new policy.
Nine other states have enacted this NIL policy so far. The PIAA is scheduled to meet again in December, where the policy may become formally approved.
