PIAA Girls Volleyball playoffs:
–Freeport shutout Beaver 3-0 to reach the state semifinals for the third consecutive year. Isabella Russo led the Yellow Jackets with 11 kills. Madeline Clark had 52 assists. Freeport will get North Catholic in a rematch of the WPIAL 2A championship game. North Catholic defeated defending PIAA champion Bald Eagle 3-1 Saturday. North Catholic has reached the semifinals for the first time in school history. Their match will be played Tuesday at North Allegheny high school and begins at 7pm.
–Knoch defeated Franklin Regional 3-0 to reach the state semifinals for a third consecutive time. Skylar Burkett led the Knights with 11 kills. Knoch will face Palmyra Tuesday in the semifinals. The match will be played at Altoona high school beginning at 5pm.
–North Allegheny has also reached the semifinals for a third consecutive year following a 3-0 win over State College. The Tigers will meet Landisville Hempfield in Altoona following the Knoch match at 6:30pm.
PIAA Girls Soccer playoffs:
–Mars defeated West Allegheny 4-0 Saturday in the 3A quarterfinals. Taylor Hamlett scored twice for the Planets, who have reached the 3A semifinals for the first time since they won the 2A state title in 2011. Mars has now outscored their opponents 30-1 in the post-season. They will meet Archbishop Wood Tuesday in the semifinals. The game will be played at Bald Eagle high school beginning at 6pm. The Planets are now 20-0-1 this season.
–North Catholic defeated Bald Eagle in the 2A soccer quarterfinals Saturday. They will get Erie Villa Maria Tuesday in the semifinals. The game will be played at Slippery Rock high school at begins at 5:30pm.
–North Allegheny fell to Boyertown 3-2 in overtime Saturday. With Norwin falling to McDowell, the WPIAL will not have a representative in the 4A semifinals for the first time since that classification began in 1992.
The WPIAL 6A football championship game will be played Saturday at Heinz Field with Central Catholic facing Pine-Richland. Both teams enter the game 10-1. Kick-off is 8pm. Three other WPIAL title games will be played Saturday at Heinz Field beginning at 11am.
–Grove City defeated Hickory Saturday and will meet Sharon for the District-10 3A championship. The game will be played Saturday at Slippery Rock University’s Mihalik-Thompson Stadium beginning at 7pm.
–Karns City fell to defending champion Ridgway 34-27 Saturday in the District-9 2A semifinals. Ridgway reaches the D-9 title game for the fourth consecutive season. They will meet Clarion Saturday.
–Redbank Valley defeated Union/AC Valley 32-6 Friday in the District-9 1A semifinals. Redbank Valley will meet Coudersport in the title game.
