Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier has been named one of three finalists for a National League Rawlings Gold Glove. Frazier was second among National League second baseman with a .989 fielding percentage. He had six errors over 142 games, including 133 starts. He was also second among qualifiers in Ultimate Zone Rating. Only Atlanta’s Ozzie Albie had better statistics. St. Louis second baseman Kolten Wong is the other finalist.
Game Three of the baseball World Series will be played tonight in Washington, D.C. The Nationals lead the Houston Astros 2-0. Game time is 8:07pm. The game will be televised on Fox. Zack Greinke will start for Houston. Anibal Sanchez will start for Washington.
Houston fired assistant general manager Brandon Taubman Thursday for directing inappropriate comments at female reporters following the Astros American League pennant-winning victory. He had previously apologized for directing comments toward the reporters regarding a story written about a Houston player.
One day after the Chicago Cubs named David Ross their manager, the Philadelphia Phillies hired Joe Girardi as their manager. Girardi led the New York Yankees to their 27th World Series title in 2009 over the Phils. He also previously managed the Miami Marlins, and in 2006 was the National League Manager of the Year. Girardi led the Marlins to a 78-84 record that season, becoming the only manager to win the award with a losing record.
San Diego has hired Texas bench coach Jayce Tingler to lead the Padres, who have not had a winning record in nine seasons.
