The Pittsburgh Pirates shut out the Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 Sunday to avoid a series sweep. Rookie pitcher Roansy Contreras threw five scoreless innings. The Pirates also had three triples off Phillies starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard, scoring all five runs of the 29-year old right-hander. It was the first time the Pirates had three triples in a game since May, 2018. Contreras allowed just three hits and struck out seven.
The Pirates begin a three-game series in Milwaukee tonight. First pitch is 8:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:45pm.
