The San Diego Padres defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 last night. The Bucs managed just three hits in the game, and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position during the game. San Diego starter Blake Snell allowed two hits and the Pirates lone run over six innings. Pirates starting pitcher Rich Hill allowed two earned runs on seven hits while pitching into the fifth inning. The Pirates bullpen allowed the Padres to score three runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Pirates reliever Angel Perdomo was ejected from the game after hitting Manny Machado with a pitch in the seventh inning. This came after he allowed a solo home run to Juan Soto. Pirates manager Derek Shelton was also thrown out of the game.
The Pirates have not won consecutive games since June, and have fallen to 5-15 in the month of July. They are now 44-56 overall.
The Pirates and Padres complete their three game series this afternoon. First pitch is 4:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 3:40pm.
The Bucs are off Thursday and host the Philadelphia Phillies for three games this weekend.
