The Pittsburgh Pirates allowed 12 unanswered runs after building a 6-0 lead in Philadelphia last night, and lost 12-6 to the Phillies. It was the fourth time this season that Philadelphia has fallen behind by six or more runs in a game, and came back to win, which ties a mark set by the Cincinnati Reds in 1987.
Ke’Bryan Hayes hit a three-run home run and Colin Moran hit his 9th home run of the year. Only one Pirate pitcher out of six did not allow a run in the game.
The two teams play again tonight at 7:05pm. The Pirates record fell to 57-95 with ten games remaining.
The Chicago White Sox defeated Cleveland 7-2 last night in the opening game of a doubleheader, and clinched their first division title since 2008. The White Sox were a Wild Card team last season, and clinched back-to-back playoff berths for the first time in team history.
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 8-5 Thursday afternoon, extending their longest winning streak in 39 years to 12 games.
