Pitcher Chris Archer become a free agent on Saturday after the Pittsburgh Pirates declined his 2021 option.
Officials say that the option for next season was worth approximately $11 million. The 32-year-old will receive a $250,000 buyout from the contract that he initially signed with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2014. Archer’s recent deal also included a 2020 option worth $9 million that the Pirates exercised this past season.
Archer came to the Pirates in a mid-season trade in 2018. In 33 starts with Pittsburgh, Archer went 6-12 overall and finished with an ERA of 4.92.
