The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 5-1 last night to the Philadelphia Phillies in the first game of a four-game series. Jared Jones pitched into the seventh inning, but took the loss. He allowed two home runs, and three earned runs total. Jones did not walk a batter and struck out eight. It was the Pirates seventh quality start in a row.
Colin Holderman entered his first game of the season. He had the misfortune of watching a routine fly ball turn into an error. The next batter hit a home run. The Bucs have 12 errors in 13 games.
The Pirates had seven singles in the game and struck out 14 times. Andrew McCutchen and Michael A. Taylor accounted for six of the strikeouts.

Last night’s loss dropped the Bucs into a first-place tie with Milwaukee in the National League Central. The Brewers and Cincinnati were rained out yesterday.
