The Pittsburgh Pirates have fired General Manager Neal Huntington, the club said in a press release Monday morning.
A statement from owner Bob Nutting said, “This past season was the most frustrating and challenging season that I have experienced as an owner.”
“It became clear to me that as the season progressed, a significant change was necessary in order to refresh our entire operations,” Nutting said.
The Pirates say they will “pause” their search for a new manager to replace Clint Hurdle, who was fired before the final game of the season. Interviews for that position had been ongoing since the offseason began.
The Pirates and team president Frank Coonelly agreed to part ways last week. The team announced former Pittsburgh Penguins executive Travis Williams as Coonelly’s replacement.
Huntington had been the general manger of the Pirates for the past 12 seasons.
