The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 Sunday to take their three-game series. The Bucs left 13 men on base in the game and went 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position. The only help the Pirates received was from first baseman Rowdy Tellez, who broke out of a season-long slump by driving in all for runs. Pirates starting pitcher Quinn Priester allowed four earned runs on eight hits while pitching into the fifth inning.
The Bucs won their only game of the series behind the pitching of Mitch Keller Saturday, who struck out eight over six innings in their 8-1 victory. It was Keller’s fifth victory in a row.
The Pirates are off today, then begin a six-game homestand Tuesday when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Pirates will be recalling catcher Henry Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis. Davis struggled with a .162 batting average before being sent down a month ago. Since that time, he hit .297 with seven home runs, seven doubles along with 17 RBI’s and 20 runs scored.
