The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 last night in the opening game of a three-game series. The Pirates allowed a 3-0 lead to slip away, with starting pitcher Martin Perez tossing five shutout innings, but was roughed up for three runs in the sixth inning. Reliever Aroldis Chapman allowed three more runs in the eighth inning, and was ejected for arguing calls by the home plate umpire after he allowed a game-winning double.
The Pirates were held to just three hits in the game, with their run production aided by five walks. The game went scoreless for the first five innings. They fell to 11-6 overall.
The Bucs and Mets play again tonight at 7:10p. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:45pm. Rookie Jared Jones will start for the Pirates. Former Pirate Jose Quintana starts for the Mets.
