The Pittsburgh Pirates losing streak has reached nine games following a 3-0 loss last night to the San Diego Padres. The Pirates had nine hits in the game, but went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Bryan Reynolds had three hits, including a double.
The Padres scored single runs in the first, fifth and eighth innings. Luis Ortiz started for the Pirates. He allowed two runs, one earned, over five innings. He walked two and struck out three. The lone unearned run Ortiz gave up came on an Oneil Cruz error in the first inning. Cruz now has 23 errors at shortstop this season.
The two teams complete their series this afternoon at 4:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 3:45pm.
The Bucs are off Thursday, and return home to host Seattle for a three-game series this weekend.
The Pirates losing streak has now tied for the third-longest losing streak in Major League Baseball this season. Miami and Oakland have also gone through nine-game losing streaks. The 21-game losing streak for the Chicago White Sox is the longest of the year.
