The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a three-game series sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates following a 6-5 victory in 10-innings Sunday. The Pirates have now lost seven games in a row, and have lost nine of their last 10 games. David Bednar, who blew two saves in the last week, took the loss Sunday, when he allowed the Dodgers to score twice after the Pirates had taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th inning.
Starting pitcher Bailey Falter allowed four runs to the Dodgers over six innings. Four relievers pitched four scoreless innings and the Pirates tied the game in the eighth inning. Bednar tossed a scoreless ninth inning, before Los Angeles rallied for the win. Andrew McCutchen led the Pirates comeback in the game, with a pair of two-run home runs.
The Pirates have now slipped to last place in the National League Central Division and are now five games under .500. They have fallen to five games back in the Wild Card race.
The Pirates open a three-game series in San Diego tonight. First pitch is 9:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 9:15pm. Marco Gonzales starts for the Bucs. Former Pirate Joe Musgrove will start for San Diego.
