The Pittsburgh Pirates were no-hit last night by Chicago White Sox right-hander Lucas GiolIto. The Bucs managed only one base-runner, a fourth-inning walk to shortstop Erik Gonzalez. GiolIto struck out 13. It was the first no-hitter of the pandemic-shortened Major League Baseball season. Chicago won the game 4-0.
Pirate starter Steven Brault allowed four runs on five hits in three innings of work. Reliever Nick Tropeano made his Pirates debut and threw four scoreless innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
The Pirates and White Sox play again this afternoon at 2:10pm. Trevor Williams will start for the Bucs. WISR pre-game is 1:45pm.
The Pirates will play a doubleheader in St. Louis Thursday – before heading to Milwaukee to begin a four-game series Friday.
