The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago White Sox 10-6 last night. The Bucs fell behind 4-0 in the first inning before answering with four runs of their own in the second inning. They ended the night with 16 hits, including four from Corey Dickerson. Starling Marte added three hits.
The bullpen allowed just one run over seven innings after starting pitcher Ivan Nova went just two innings.
With the victory, the Pirates are now 20-16 overall, and moved to within one game of first place in the Central Division. The Cardinals and Brewers are tied for the top spot.
The Bucs and White Sox complete their two-game series this afternoon at 2:10pm. WISR will join the broadcast following “It’s Your Turn with Dave Malarkey”. Trevor Williams will start for the Pirates. He is 4-2 with a 2.63 ERA.
Seattle’s James Paxton threw Major League Baseball’s third no-hitter of the season last night. Paxton was coming off a 16 strikeout performance in his previous game, and did not allow a hit to Toronto last night. He struck out seven last night. Paxton becomes the first Canadian-born pitcher since 1945 for throw a no-hitter. All three no-hitters this season have been in three different countries. (U.S., Canada and Mexico).
