The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Los Angels Angels 9-3 last night in the opening game of a three-game series. The victory also snapped a three-game losing streak for the Pirates.
Andrew McCutchen hit a 417-foot home run in the fourth inning which gave the Bucs a 5-1 lead. They went on to get 18 hits in a game for the first time since April of 2023. Bryan Reynolds and Isaiah Kiner-Falefa had three hits each. It was Reynolds third three-hit game in his last four.
Pirates starting pitcher Bailey Falter left the game after four innings with lower back tightness. He had allowed three runs on five hits, while striking out five. Five Pirates relievers did not allow the Angels a run in relief.
The Bucs and Angels play again tonight at 9:38pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 9:10pm. Andrew Heaney will start for the Pirates.
