The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept in their three-game series by the Detroit Tigers following a 2-1 loss Sunday afternoon at PNC Park. The Pirates fell to 3-13 overall. Adam Frazier and Erik Gonzalez had two hits each. Gonzales has eight RBI’s over his last six games.
The Pirates lost 17-13 to the Tigers Friday night and 11-5 Saturday.
The Pirates are now off until Thursday when they visit the Cincinnati Reds. Their three game series in St. Louis which was supposed to begin today – has been postponed as the Cardinals continue to deal with ongoing issues related to the coronavirus. St. Louis has not played a game since July 29th. They have had 16 team members test positive.
Pirates utility man Philip Evans will miss the remainder of the season after a violent collision with Gregory Polanco in Saturday’s loss to Detroit. Evans suffered a broken jaw and concussion. He was hitting a team-high .359 at the time of the injury.
The Pirates have reached into an independent league to sign a veteran pitcher. The Bucs came to an agreement with Henderson Alvarez – who last pitched in the major leagues in 2017.
