The Houston Astros shutout the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-0 last night in the opening game of a three-game series at PNC Park. All three Astros runs came via two home runs.
Paul Skenes allowed one run on three hits over eight innings. He struck out eight and lowered his ERA to 2.05. His record fell to 4-6. It was a major league-leading 10th shutout of the Pirates this season.
The Pirates managed only four singles in the game. Two of the hits belonged to Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, who is batting .310 this season, but remains in the ninth spot of the Pirates lineup.
Second baseman Nick Gonzales returned to the Pirates lineup from the Injured List. He had one of the Pirates hits.
The Bucs and Astros play again tonight at 6:45pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Rookie Mike Burrows will start for the Pirates tonight.
