The Pittsburgh Pirates are expected to sign 1B/DH Carlos Santana to a 1 year 6.725M deal, pending physical.
Santana, 36, has collected 278 home runs and 334 doubles in his career. He hit .202/.316/376 with 19 home runs across 131 games split between the Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners last season. Santana notably hit a 3-run home run in this year’s playoffs while the Mariner were down 8-2, helping them to a 10-9 comeback victory to advance to the ALDS for the first time since 2001.
The Pirates had the worst collective production at first base in 2022 and have addressed that issue early this off-season, both with the signing of Santana and trading for 1B Ji-Man Choi, who is expected to earn $4.5M in Arbitration this winter.
