The Pittsburgh Pirates swept the doubleheader with the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday. The Bucs won the first game 4-3 in eight innings and won the nightcap 2-0.
In Game One – The Bucs rallied for three runs in the eighth inning and held on for the win. Chad Kuhl started for the Pirates and allowed one run on four hits over six innings. Richard Rodriguez earned his second save of the season despite allowing two runs in the eighth. Jacob Stallings had another two-hit game to lead the Pirates.
In Game Two—Cody Ponce pitched 5-2/3rd scoreless innings in his return from the alternative training site in Altoona.
The Pirates begin a four-game series in Milwaukee tonight. Game time is set for 8:10pm. WISR pre-game is 7:45pm. Derek Holland will start for the Bucs.
The Pirates improved to 9-19 overall – and the two wins moved the Los Angeles Angels to the worst record in baseball.
