The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs 8-7 in 10-innings Thursday afternoon at PNC Park. Michael Chavis hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, after the Cubs put up five runs in the top of that inning to take away a Pirates 6-2 lead. Chavis then drove in the winning run in the 10th. He also threw out a Cubs runner at home plate in the top of that inning.
The Pirates hit three home runs in the game. Jose Quintana started for the Bucs and allowed two runs over six innings.
Ke’Bryan Hayes hit one of the Pirates home runs, and scored the game-winning run. He was shaken up at the plate after sliding in head first.
After taking three of four games from the Cubs, the Bucs now begin a six-game road trip tonight in Florida when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays. First pitch is 7:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:45pm.
