The Pittsburgh Pirates came from behind to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park. The two teams traded home runs in the first inning, with the Brewers taking a 3-1 lead in the opening frame. Ke’Bryan Hayes hit his 13th home run of the year in that first inning. The Bucs scored two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to take the lead. David Bednar closed the game with two strikeouts in the ninth inning for his 33rd save of the season.
The Pirates are off today, then visit the Atlanta Braves for three games this weekend.
Since the beginning of August, the Bucs have gone 18-17 and are now 65-75 overall.
Andrew McCutchen will miss the rest of the regular season after discovering he has a partially torn Achilles tendon. Cutch had his best season since 2019 with Philadelphia. He batted .256 over 112 games, hitting 12 home runs. He drove in 43, scored 55 runs and stole 11 bases. He sits at 299 career home runs.
