The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 last night at PNC Park. Luis Ortiz allowed just a run on four hits over seven innings. He allowed a walk and struck out five. Ortiz completes his season 7-6 with a 3.32 ERA. Aroldis Chapman earned his 12th save of the season.
Recently recalled shortstop Liover Peguero earned his first hit of the season with a two-out double in the fifth inning, driving in both Pirate runs. Isaiah Kiner-Falefa had the other two Pirate hits in the game.
The Pirates play their final home game of the season this afternoon when they host the Brewers for a 12:35pm first pitch. Pre-game on WISR begins at 12:10pm. Mitch Keller will make his final start of the season. Keller is 11-11 with a 4.21 ERA.
The Pirates visit the New York Yankees beginning Friday.
The Yankees lost again to Baltimore 9-7 last night. New York is now just a half-game in front of Cleveland for the best record in the American League. The Guardians defeated Cincinnati 5-2 last night.
The New York Mets-Atlanta Braves games scheduled for last night and today have been postponed and will be played as a doubleheader Monday. The regular season is set to end Sunday, but the doubleheader could determine the final National League Wild Cards. The Mets and Arizona are one game in front of the Braves.
The Chicago White Sox won their second game in a row when they defeated the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 in 10-innings Wednesday. They remain tied with the 1962 New York Mets for the most losses in a season with four games remaining. Chicago is now 37-120.
