The Pirates have promoted right-handed starting pitcher Luis Ortiz to start one of the games today. The 23-year old prospect was named the Triple-A International League pitcher of the week after he tossed six no-hit innings against Omaha last Thursday. He was promoted to Indianapolis from Altoona September 1st.
Altoona Curve right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. He tossed seven scoreless innings in his latest start last Friday. The Pirates former #1-draft pick has a 2.13 ERA in 14 starts since being joining the Curve, the second-best ERA mark in Double-A. Priester is considered the number three prospect in the Pirates organization according to MLB.com.
The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first major league team to clinch a playoff spot following their 97th win of the year last night. The Dodgers defeated Arizona 6-0. They lead the San Diego Padres by 20 games in the National League West.
