A Detroit three-run fourth inning and 11 Pirates left on base decided the Tigers 6-3 victory Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park. The Pirates outhit Detroit 9-8, but went 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position. They also struck out 13 times in the game. Pirates starting pitcher Osvaldo Bido followed a 1-2-3 third inning by not getting an out in that fourth inning. He allowed four earned runs on three hits. Veterans Andrew McCutchen and Bryan Reynolds led the Pirates with three hits each.
The Bucs scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but left the bases loaded to end the game. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak.
The Pirates open a four-game series in Milwaukee tonight. Game time is 7:15pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:50pm.
Ke’Bryan Hayes returned to the line-up Wednesday. He had been on the Injured List with a back issue. He went 0-for-4 with a sacrifice fly run batted in.
