Steelers Nation continues to mourn the loss of quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who was killed in an accident in Florida on Saturday.
According to our news partners at WPXI, Haskins was struck by a dump truck on a highway in Fort Lauderdale around 6:30am. While it is unclear why Haskins exited his vehicle, officials say that he was on his way to the airport to return to Pittsburgh following recent workouts with several teammates.
Haskins was a first round draft pick (15th overall) in 2019 and played for the Washington Commanders prior to signing with the Steelers. Before he was released by Washington in 2020, he completed 267 of 444 pass attempts for 2,804 with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in two seasons, according to the Steelers.
Haskins also played for Ohio State University and finished third in the Heisman Trophy race in 2018.
He is survived by several family members and his wife.
