Some residents in a portion of Butler County will be affected by a planned West Penn Power outage this weekend.
The outage will take place Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to noon although it might not last that long.
A total of about 1,100 West Penn Power customers will be impacted, mostly in areas including some residents of Butler City, some in Slippery Rock, some in Clay Township, and some in West Sunbury Borough.
Company spokesman Todd Meyers explains about the work planned to take place:
“We are going to be doing some work at one of our substations near West Sunbury,” Meyers said. “We’re going to be finishing up some work on switches. Those switches are able to operate remotely so a lineman doesn’t have to go out and manually open a switch.”
“If we have a problem on a line, we can shift customers temporarily using this automated equipment to a different line, while we’re cleaning up what needs to be fixed with the first line,” Meyers said.
West Penn has made an effort to notify those affected with a recorded message but some residents do not have a number on file with the company.
“We call the number that we have on record,” Meyers said. “So if you have given up your landline and your cell phone is now your primary contact number. Let us know at West Penn Power, that way we have the right correct contact information.”
Not everyone in those municipalities will be affected as the circuit being updated might service one resident but not a neighbor. As long as West Penn has a correct phone number, those affected will be notified.
**A previous headline for this story said the outage would happen Saturday. The outage will happen on Sunday, Nov. 24th.
