Contrary to some misinformed social media posters, a local turkey provider is not running out of turkeys.
Dave Jones of Jones Turkey Farm has been selling an average of 4,000 turkeys every year for 30 years and he has never run out. He believes that this rumor may have started due to the decision of another turkey farm owner.
“Other farmers are running out of turkeys and people are assuming that I’m running out of turkeys. One big producer down in Leechburg cut his flock in half from 12,000 down to 6,000. He didn’t tell anybody so there’s 6,000 turkeys that aren’t there to be bought.”
Jones currently has about 500 birds available between 16 and 19 pounds which is actually a little more than he normally has ready at this point less than two weeks before Thanksgiving.
“I keep frosty-fresh. I don’t use preservatives so we have to chill them to keep the bacteria from growing but they warm up quick. I’ve had people come Thanksgiving morning and pick them up.”
Jones Turkey Farm is located on Jones Road in Cabot and can be reached by phone or through their website.
