We’re learning the name of the woman who was flown to a hospital after being involved in the crash that shut down I-79 for hours earlier this week.
The accident happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday on I-79 in the southbound lane when 21-year-old Kendra Benton of Sandy Lake was driving an ambulance and did not slow down for traffic crashing into the back of a car driven by 61-year-old Marilyn Suchy of Mercer.
Suchy suffered serious injuries and had to be flown to a Pittsburgh trauma center.
But the first crash triggered a chain reaction accident involving six vehicles total, including an ambulance.
A total of eight people were taken to hospitals across the area dealing with suspected minor to more serious injuries.
Police say all vehicles were significantly damaged in the crash.
