A hearing by the House Majority Policy Committee focused on challenges that are facing local police departments.
Ronald Zona is the Chief of the Westmoreland County Detective Bureau also said finding new officers is one of the biggest challenges.
“There is no easy solution to this, but first thing we need to make a career in law enforcement appealing again,” Zona said. “We need to offer some incentive for people to join this dangerous profession. We need to pay our officers well and offer better benefits.”
Zona also said that local police officers need better access to training and equipment.
“We also need to better fund the training of our officers,” Zona said.
