A man from Butler is headed to jail Wednesday afternoon on attempted homicide charges after police allege he fired gunshots into a city home early this morning.
Michael Smith, 45, of Walker Avenue, is accused of firing two shots from a .380 semi-automatic handgun into a home at 117 Walker Avenue about 4 a.m.
Police say one shot went through the interior wall of the home and passed by where an individual- identified as 43-year-old Donald Dobson- was sitting. The other shot was lodged in the house. There was a female, Dobson’s sister, also inside the home during the shooting but she was not hurt.
Butler City Police allege a drug deal gone wrong between Smith and Dobson prompted the shooting.
“Smith alleged he was involved in a drug deal with Dobson earlier in the night. He smoked crack cocaine and thought Dobson may have stolen his revolver,” according to a news release from police.
Smith was initially placed in the Butler County Prison on a parole detainer. He was set to be arraigned late Wednesday morning on new charges including attempted homicide, in addition to a list of other offenses.
